There are a number of causes for cramps in muscles. When a muscle is kept in the same position for a long period or is over stretched or overused, cramps occur. Writer’s cramps take place when the small muscles of the hand are used for a long time. Dehydration can also cause cramps in muscles.
Another cause of cramps is the narrowing of the arteries or Atherosclerosis, due to which cramps occur in muscles as sufficient blood supply could not reach the muscles. Cramps in legs are often associated with strenuous exercise. Some diseases like diabetes, kidney problems and anemia also cause cramps in muscles.
