Body temperature still remains the most trusted method of physicians all around the world for primary detection of a disease in the patient’s body.
In United States, body temperature is measured in Fahrenheit. 98.6 is considered normal body temperature. In some other parts of the world, body temperature is measured in Centigrade and normal body temperature measures to 37 degree Centigrade. But the body temperature does not stay constantly at these ideal measurements. In fact it varies throughout the day. It varies between 97.5 and 98.8 Fahrenheit. Body temperature can also vary according to the nature of activity being performed at a particular time. Low body temperature is called Hypothermia in medical parlance. Whereas, normal body temperature allows the routine performance of the body, any fall in it can disrupt the normal functioning of the body. Hypothermia is commonly caused by an exposure to any environment with temperature significantly lower than the body of that person but there are other causes for low body temperature.The drop in body temperature can be triggered by a lot of causes but now medical experts across the world are able to identify most of these causes. Low body temperature is usually accompanied by other symptoms and it would require a thorough investigation for ascertaining the exact causes of hypothermia.
But most often, the causes behind hypothermia are quite simple like exposure to extremely cold weather without proper woollen clothing or falling in extremely cold water. Staying out in the cold for too long and inadequate heating indoors could also cause mild hypothermia. There are some causes of low body temperature which are not related with cold. Hormonal imbalance or changes in hormone levels can also be the cause for low body temperature. Especially in case of women, body temperature keeps on fluctuating with these changes in hormone levels. Women usually experience higher or lower than normal body temperatures during menstruation or ovulation.
Some diseases also cause a variation in the normal body temperature. Diseases like Pneumonia, Hepatitis C, Thyriod or Liver diseases and Anaemia can cause the body temperature to decline. While it is normal to have low body temperature once in a while but experiencing it regularly can be a cause for concern, warranting medical examination by a doctor.
