Hair growth follows a cycle of growth that lasts for about two or three years. It is normal to shed some hair in a day but some people face excessive hair loss. It can occur among men, women and children.
There are
many reasons behind excessive hair loss. Those facing an illness or those who underwent a major surgery experience excessive hair loss after 3 or 4 months of it. This is related to the stress of illness or surgery and is temporary.
Another reason is the hormonal problems among men and women.
Some medicines also cause hair loss but this temporary and stops when you discontinue the medicine. Infections like fungal infections can also cause hair loss but these can be easily treated.
Generally, hair loss in patches signifies alopecia areata. Alopecia areata typically presents with sudden hair loss causing patches to appear on the scalp or other areas of the body. If left untreated, or if the disease does not respond to treatment, complete baldness can result in the affected area, which is referred to as alopecia totalis.
