Eye twitching or Blepharospasm as it is medically known, is often harmless but difficult to treat as the causes are often unknown. Mostly the lower lid of one eye is involved and the twitching in some rare cases can last up to weeks or months also. The irritating problem is caused by stress, strain on the eyes, tiredness and lack of sleep.

Nutritional imbalances, allergies and excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine may also cause twitching in the eyes. Dry eyes due to aging or working on computer for long hours can also cause twitching. Some medicines also cause dry eyes which in turn causes twitching in the eyes. Sometimes twitching also indicates a disorder of the nervous system.
